Summer dress in teal knit

I'd been admiring this beautiful teal fabric in Spotlight for at least a year, so when it appeared on the clearance table recently, I pounced.

This is a simple little dress adapted from pattern O from Girls Style Book. I improvised a front placket instead of having a slit at the back of the dress, and left off the patch pockets, but otherwise it's exactly as per the pattern. The Birch organic knit was nice and easy to sew with and I love the colour SO much.

White wall plus blazing sun plus strong wind doesn't make for the greatest photos (nor the most pleasant experience) but the dress really looks lovely on R. It's a little looser than I'd intended, so I hemmed it to be it just above the knee instead of shortening it further, which had been my plan. This way she can wear it again next summer and it won't be too mini.

R has grown out of so many of her clothes, which is wonderful as there's nothing I love more than sewing summer dresses. Time to start cutting out my next one...

  1. Ah, here is the dress :) It looks lovely! I don't think it looks too big. I think it will be perfect on hot days to come. I had a few of R's dresses sitting waiting to be packed away since last summer. Then we decided to try them on... They fit even better than last year hahaha Not that it is going to stop me form making a couple more ;)

    1. Thanks Jenya. It's nice that R is getting extra wear out of her clothes and of course you shouldn't let that stop you from sewing more! After all, with two daughters you get double value from anything you sew for the older one :)

    1. Thanks Inder, I'm kind of jealous because I really love that teal colour. Gold sandals are from last summer and miraculously they still fit. R has super narrow feet that are hard to find shoes for so the poor thing usually only gets one pair per season!

  3. It's so pretty! I love the button front, and the fabric is lovely.

  4. What a pretty dress! I like it with the placket in the front (and I don’t think it looks too big either). The fabric is such a pretty color, too. Yay for more dresses!

    1. Thanks Emi :) Actually I've warmed to the slightly 'oversized' look - makes it extra comfortable to wear and easy to throw on!
