Pineapple dress

Pineapples are all the rage, so a friend told me recently. All I know is that this cotton knit fabric called out to me from the racks of Darn Cheap Fabrics, and since I didn't think I could get away with wearing so much tropical fruit, I made a dress for R.

The pattern is dress M-2 from the Japanese Sewing Lesson Book and while I loved the look of it on the model in the book, it came out a little baggy on R - this despite my having used my usual trick of making the width a size smaller AND taking a couple of centimetres off at the centre folds of front and back. Never mind, it still looks pretty good and it's bound to be very comfy to wear.

This pattern is a simple one: just front, back, sleeves and pockets, but the little details of the angled pocket tops (see photo above right) and the cute bow closure at the back (almost too cute, but I knew R would love it) make it special.

Anyway, who doesn't love pineapples?

    1. Thanks Lucinda. It was the colour that grabbed me - I love muted shades. R would probably prefer something with more glitter and glamour, but she seems happy enough with her pineapples...

  2. Ha! Can't believe you're on the pineapplesaresohotrightnow bandwagon!! However yours are by far the best. Love the colour and that is a gorgeous t-shirt dress. The bow is perfection! Can you believe I've never been to Darn Cheap? Must make the trip one day....

    1. Thank you Shelley. Happy to meet you at Darn Cheap any time - it's not really all that exciting, but if you want pineapple fabric (gotta keep up with the trends, you know) they have it in several colours :)

  3. This is such a simple dress, but so beautifully executed with those pockets and the little bow. I'm not surprised she loves it! I really want to try Japanese sewing books, must get on that this year!

    1. Thanks Inder :) If you want to try an untranslated Japanese sewing book, this one is fantastic because several of the patterns include photographic instructions. But so many are available in English now, so that makes things a little easier!
